Amanjena, Marrakech, Morocco

Amanjena is designed to emulate the old Moorish pise (packed earth) buildings, as well as Berber villages that cling to the High Atlas Mountains.

The resort's rose-blush coloured pavilions are separated by reflecting pools in a landscape of lawns and vines, emerald-clay roofs, marble fountains and glittering, hand-cut, glazed tiles (zellij), all set within an oasis of palms and mature olive trees.

Amanjena's 32 air-conditioned pavilions all include a high-domed ceiling, king-size platform bed and an open fire place. Brass lanterns and Berber carpets discreetly reinforce the Moroccan theme.

The luxurious Al-Hamra Maison offers an extensive 180m² pavilion, indoor dining and sitting area and its own private butler service. The bedrooms are linked by an open passageway to a shared garden with a private 40m² heated pool and two minzahs for dining and lounging.

Highlights of Amanjena
The resort looks out onto the snow-capped Atlas Mountains and provides the ideal base for exploring Marrakech and beyond, Moroccan cuisine and the hammam, or steam bath, which is central to Moroccan life. The hammams – one each for men and women – are complemented by showers, washrooms and a glassed-in whirlpool.

Hotel activities include: Boutiques that include fine Moroccan art and handicrafts, jewellery, brass lanterns, pottery, antiques and hand-woven linens; tennis courts; two golf courses, including the Royal Golf de Marrakech; and a heated outdoor 33m swimming pool.

More outdoor activities include mountain biking and, for the more adventurous, heli-biking, where a helicopter transports riders to the Atlas Mountain slopes of Oukeimden from where they make their way down a 24km bush run to Sidi Fares. The hotel can arrange skiing trips to Oukaimeden – the best skiing in Morocco, and hiking tours to Jebel Toubkal, Morocco’s highest mountain.

Location – Amanjena is located 7km from Marrakech.

Best time to visit Morocco?
Spring from April to May and Autumn from October to November are the best time to visit Marrakech, when temperatures average 25°C; spring is ideal for hiking. However, avoid April if you plan on desert travel as it’s the sandstorm season. Winter and summer bring either extreme cold or extreme heat. January and February are best for skiing.

About Morocco
Explore the labyrinthine alleyways, secluded palaces, museums, mosques and markets of the ‘Pink City’ of Marrakech, founded in 1062 and set beneath the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.

Don’t miss Marrakech’s famous and exotic Djemaa el-Fna square (Place of the Dead), where storytellers and jugglers jostle for position with magicians, acrobats and snake charmers. Another not to be missed is the UNESCO-listed medina, crammed with architectural masterpieces including the sumptuous Bahia Palace. Read more about Marrakech . . .
