Sitting on the banks of the Waikato River and surrounded by natural beauty, Huka Lodge is regarded as one of the world’s most famous retreats, and is popular with celebrities and royalty.
Situated in 7ha of park-like grounds, the lodge has only 20 rooms, all of which are located in eight separate cottages set among mature trees overlooking the river. The rooms are spacious, light and peaceful, with slatted wooden shutters and outdoor terraces. The bathrooms come with under-floor heating, a sunken bath and separate shower.
The main lodge room, used by guests during the day and for pre-dinner drinks each evening, features a log-burning fireplace surrounded by comfortable seating with a rich warm ambience and panoramic views of the Waikato River and toward Huka Falls.

Tranquillity. The five-course set menu changes daily depending on what the chef decides, based on the best fresh local produce available on that day. All meals are communal seating, with some private dining available. The wine cellar holds around 25,000 bottles of renowned New Zealand and international wines. Hotel rates include pre-dinner cocktails, a five-course dinner and breakfast.
Hotel activities include: Tennis, an outside spa pool; a petanque (also known as bocce or boules) court and croquet field; fly fishing; local activities including tandem skydiving, jet boating and bungy jumping on the Waikato River; white and black water rafting on the Tongariro or Rangitaiki rivers; and hunting with a guide. Lake Taupo provides an aquatic playground with water skiing, swimming and picnicking. The Lodge can also arrange wine tours, golfing, sailing, mountain biking and hiking trips into the nearby mountains.
