Montreal Honeymoon

In Montreal, the world's third-largest French-speaking city (after Paris and Kinshasa), discover a stylish, vibrant, multilingual and cosmopolitan city just perfect for exploring on foot. It's also a fascinating honeymoon destination.

Things to do and see
Explore the medieval churches, fascinating museums, charming squares and cobblestone streets of Vieux-Montréal (Old Montreal), pleasantly located on the banks of the St Lawrence River.

Tour the magnificent twin-towered, neo-Gothic Notre-Dame Basilique, a stunning cathedral designed in 1824, featuring colourful stained-glass windows and rare woodwork that is finely carved, gilded and painted.

Head underground in the Musée d'Archéologie et d'Histoire de Montréal (Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History) to see archaeological remains excavated here on the very site where the original colony was established in 1642.

Discover replicas of polar and tropical ecosystems at the Biodôme de Montréal or explore a treasure trove of paintings in the Musée des Beaux-Arts (Museum of Fine Arts), where you can admire paintings by 12th to 19th century artists including Hogarth, Tintoretto, Bruegel and El Greco, as well as more recent artists such as Renoir, Monet, Picasso, Cézanne and Rodin.

Groove to cool sounds in the many jazz clubs of downtown, Old Town and the Latin Quarter, especially during the renowned Montréal Jazz Festival, held from late June to early July each year.

Savour gourmet French cuisine found throughout the city’s cafes, bistros and restaurants and browse for the latest fashions as well as traditional Inuit (Eskimo) handicrafts at Cité Souterraine (the Underground City), in the trendy boutiques on avenue Monkland, boulevard St-Laurent and rue St-Denis. Don’t miss the eclectic antiques shops along rue Notre-Dame.

Rent a bike and choose from more than 350km of cycling paths that wind through the city: try the popular 11km route from the Old Port west along the Lachine Canal; hike to the top of Parc Mont-Royal or paddle a kayak through the quiet waters of Lachine Canal.
