South African National Gallery

Examine a fascinating collection of South African artworks, paintings and cultural artefacts reflecting South Africa's turbulent history.

The gallery is considered by many people to be the country's premier art museum. Its collection consists largely of Dutch, French and British works from the 17th to the 19th century, including lithographs, etchings and some early 20th century British paintings.

To see the best of the exhibits, join the free one-hour guided tour on Tuesday and Thursday.

Look out for the Ndebele beadwork and knobkierries (fighting sticks).
