Mataram Airport is located 3.2km from Mataram town, which is situated on the west coast of Lombok. Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali) is located 13km southwest of Denpasar and 2.5km south of Kuta. Hotels and resorts generally provide pre-arranged transport for guests. Taxis and hire cars are also available.
A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay as well as a ticket for return or onward travel. Australian citizens can get a visa on arrival for a stay of up to 30 days.
Public and tourist shuttle buses are inexpensive and reliable but are generally restricted to the main routes. Alternatively, you can walk or hire a bemo, cidomo (horse-drawn cart) or ojek (motorcycle taxi). Cars, taxis, motorcycles and bicycles are all easily hired. Consider hiring a car and driver. Driving is on the left.
If you plan to drive a car, you should obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your national motoring organisation; bring your home licence as well – it’s required to be carried together with the IDP. If not, then be prepared to pay a fine (around 100,000Rp – about AUD11) if stopped by the local police.
