Chauffered-driven cars and the local bus service are also available to get around Hanoi.

Hanoi's traffic is not for the faint-hearted, with relentless traffic, nonexistent road manners and often inadequate street lighting. Typically, the streets are crammed with bicycles, motorbikes and a growing number of cars.

Car hire: It's not possible to hire a self-drive car in Vietnam, but you can hire one with a driver from tour operators including Exo Travel (www.exotravel.com) and Vidotour (www.vidotourtravel.com).
