October falls during spring and is an excellent time to visit the Whitsundays.
You can expect clear, sunny blue skies, warm to hot temperatures and little or no rain. October heralds the start of the hot season.
October is perfect for exploring the Whitsundays’ hiking trails and beaches, swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing.
While you can sail all year round in the Whitsundays, the sailing season is at it’s best between April and October when cooling southeast trades blow consistently between 15 to 25 knots.
The stinger season lasts from October to March. A lycra stinger suit should be worn when swimming in the Whitsundays during this time. The risk of being stung is small. Sharks are generally not regarded as a risk.
