Andros is located in the Bahamas, 48km (30mi) west of Nassau, New Providence Island. The northern tip of Andros lies 233km (138mi) from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

At 5,957 sq km (2,300 sq mi), Andros is the largest island in the Bahamas and the fifth-largest island in the Caribbean.

At 167km (104mi) in length and 64km (40mi) wide at its widest point, Andros is separated by 'bights' – estuaries that divide the the land mass into the three main islands of North Andros, Middle Andros and South Andros.

The most convenient route to Andros is by air to San Andros International Airport (SAQ), which is located near Nicholls Town on North Andros Island.

By sea, you can travel from Nassau to Fresh Creek, Andros with Bahamas Ferry Services on a fully air-conditioned vessel, or one of three mailboats that provide service to several towns on a weekly (or more frequent) basis.

Andros is home to four airports: San Andros International Airport (SAQ) at Nicholls Town, Andros Town Airport (ASD) at Fresh Creek – both airports located on North Andros; Clarence A. Bain Airport at Mangrove Cay (MAY) in Middle Andros; and Congo Town Airport (TZN) in South Andros.

Taxis meet arriving flights and ferries. Hotels can provide transport by prior arrangement, including charter flights from Nassau.

Lynden Pindling International Airport (formerly Nassau International Airport) is located 16km west of Nassau.


Entry requirements

All visitors must hold return/onward tickets, plus proof of sufficient funds, and with the exception of nationals of Canada and the US, all visitors must hold passports which are valid at least six months after entry.

Australian, New Zealand and UK nationals do not require a visa for a stay of up to three months.

United States and Canadian passport holders do not require a visa for travel to the Bahamas for visits not exceeding eight months; however, they must have a valid passport or a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document, or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.


Getting around

On foot mainly, however taxis are available but expensive. Bicycles are easily rented from most resorts and are a fun way to get around.
