Public transport

Taxi: Taxis operate from the airport 24 hrs a day, with several authorised companies available, including Quintette (tel: +1 246 428 8735).

Taxis do not have meters and operate on a fixed-fare basis – fares should be agreed in advance. The average fare between Bridgetown and the airport is approximately BD$45-50.

Shuttle: Hotels can arrange transport by prior arrangement.

Bus: Buses run between Bridgetown and the airport every 10 min from 0600 to 2400, departing from the main road outside the terminal building. Journey time is around 45 min, fare – BD$2.


Car rental

Courtesy Car Rentals, Stoute’s Car Rental and Drive-A-Matic are represented at the airport, and are located just outside the arrivals hall. Other car hire companies are located off-site and can deliver pre-booked vehicles to the airport.


Terminal facilities

Money: A bank and several bureaux de change points are available at the airport. ATMs can be found in the departures area, both before and after security.

Food: A bar and several restaurants, including an Asian outlet and a Caribbean grill, serve local dishes and international cuisine.

Shopping: Shops at Grantley Adams International Airport, include souvenir and gift shops, jewellers and a convenience store. Duty-free can be found in the departures lounge – there is also an inbound duty-free shop in the arrivals lounge for international flights.

Wi-Fi: Public telephones and free Wi-Fi internet hotspots are located throughout the terminal. Charging points for electronic devices are also available. There is a post office in the departures area, located just before security.

Others: A chapel is located on the mezzanine level. A pharmacy and a spa facility is available, as well as tour operator desks to book excursions.


Disabled facilities

The arrivals and departures halls are located on the ground floor of the airport and are easily accessible to disabled passengers.

There is a lift to the restaurant on the mezzanine level and disabled toilets are located throughout the airport.

Wheelchairs can be provided by individual airlines, which can also assist passengers onto the aircraft by ambulift.

Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.


Entry requirements

All visitors must hold return/onward tickets, plus proof of sufficient funds, and all visitors must hold passports which are valid at least six months after entry. No visa is required for a stay of up to six months.


Getting around

Barbados is easily explored by car, bike or on foot. The island is small, measuring just 34km (21mi) long and 23km (14mi) wide.

Hiring a car is the best way to explore Barbados. You can hire anything from a mini moke to a limousine at the airport, at offices in Bridgetown or at the major hotels.

Roads in Barbados are generally quite narrow, with the exception of the ABC highway.
