Fort Charlotte, Nassau

Explore Fort Charlotte, an 18th Century British-colonial era fort built on a hill overlooking the harbour of Nassau.

Built in 1787 after the end of the American Revolutionary war, Fort Charlotte is the largest of Nassau's three major defensive positions. (The other two are Fort Fincastle and Fort Montagu.)

The imposing fort comes with dungeons, ramparts, drawbridge and a now waterless moat, but never saw battle.

Stroll around the battlements, enjoy the beach and harbour views, ponder the unused cannons (only seven remain on-site) and take a tour of the underground passages.

The fort is located just a short walk west of downtown Nassau and the cruise ship terminal.
