How to get to Alicante

Alicante is located on the east coast of Spain, around 40km (25mi) south of Benidorm, 172km (106mi) south of Valencia and 417km (259mi) southeast of Madrid, and is easily accessible with daily air and train connections from Europe’s capital cities.

The most convenient route to Alicante is by air to Alicante–Elche Airport (ALC), located about 9km (5.6mi) southwest of Alicante.

Alicante–Elche Airport receives daily flights from Madrid and Europe’s major capital cities.

By train, Alicante is less than 3 hrs from Madrid, with five trains daily; 4 hrs 30 min from Barcelona, with eight trains daily; and 1 hr 40 min from Valencia, with 10 trains daily.

A bus service connects Alicante with Madrid and several Costa Blanca towns.

In addition, a tram runs northwards every half hour as far as El Campello and connects with a narrow-gauge train, the trenet (little train), which then follows a scenic coastal route to Denia via Playa de San Juan, Benidorm and Calpe.

Public transport

Taxi: Taxis are available in front of the arrivals hall at Alicante Airport. Journey time to Alicante is about 15 minutes, with fares from €20. Further taxi information (tel: +34 965 427 777) is available.

Bus: The C6 public bus service operated by Subús (www.movilidad.vectalia.es) runs every 20 minutes to and from Alicante central bus station taking approximately 20 minutes, with a fare of €3.85.

Other bus services run to Elche, Benidorm and Murcia. All buses depart from opposite the Arrivals Hall.


Car rental

Car hire companies include Avis, Centauro, Enterprise, Europcar, Goldcar Rental, Hertz, Record Go and Sixt. Desks for these operators can be found on the ground floor of the public area.


Terminal facilities

Money: Currency exchange and ATMs are located within the terminal building, before and after the security screening area.

Food: There are several bars, cafés, restaurants, a fast-food outlet and an ice cream parlour at Alicante Airport, which are mainly located on the second floor of the departures area.

Shopping: A varied selection of shops at Alicante Airport include newsagents, tobacconists, a delicatessen, clothes boutiques, gift shops, a jewelry outlet and an electronics retailer.

There are also three duty-free shops for passengers leaving the EU, all of which are after security.

Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi access (free for the first 15 minutes) is available. There are also internet kiosks equipped with mobile phone chargers at various locations within the main building.

Other: Other facilities at Alicante Airport include a 24-hour first aid service, a pharmacy, and a number of tour operator desks.

A VIP lounge in the boarding area offers Internet access and refreshments.


Disabled facilities

There is a designated area outside the terminal building for dropping-off disabled passengers. There are also reserved parking spaces for disabled passengers in the airport car park opposite the terminal building.

Facilities in the terminal include lifts, ramps and disabled toilets. Wheelchairs are available on request and it is advised to pre-arrange the provision and collection of a wheelchair before arriving at the airport.

Passengers requiring special assistance should inform their airline before travelling.


Entry requirements

A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days.


Getting around
