Where is Alonissos . . .

Alonissos is located in the Aegean Sea, southeast of the Pelion Peninsula in northern Greece. Alonissos is part of the Sporades island group, which is comprised of Skopelos, Skiros, Alonnissos and Skiathos, plus a number of smaller islands.

Getting to Alonissos

The most convenient way of getting to Alonissos is by air to Athens, with daily connecting flights to Skiathos during summer.

By hydrofoil, Alonissos is one and a half hours from Skiathos and two and a half hours from the mainland port of Agios Konstantinos. By ferry, Alonissos is four hours from Volos and Konstantinos (a 3-hour bus ride from Athens).

From Australia: The most convenient flights to Athens are via Bangkok on Thai Airways, Dubai on Emirates or Abu Dhabi on Etihad Airways, with connecting flights to Skiathos on Olympic Air.

From New Zealand: The most convenient flights to Athens are via Bangkok on Thai Airways or via Singapore on Singapore Airlines, with connecting flights to Skiathos on Olympic Air.

From the UK: EasyJet, Thompson and Thomas Cook offer direct flights to Skiathos from Gatwick. Numerous daily non-stop flights are available from London to Athens.

From the USA: The most convenient flights from New York are on Delta Air Lines and Olympic Air via Athens and on Iberia via Madrid. From Los Angeles, take Airberlin via Dusseldorf to Skiathos, Air New Zealand to London Heathrow and Aegean Air to Athens or Air France via Paris to Athens.

Skiathos Island Airport is located to the northeast of the island town. Taxis operate from the airport terminal.

Athens Airport – Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport – is located 33km southeast of the city centre, around 30 minutes to an hour by taxi. The airport offers 24/7 train and bus services to Athens and beyond.

Entry requirements

A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days.

Getting around

Apart from walking, you can hop on a bus or hire a car or moped.
