Where is Corfu . . .


Corfu is the second-largest, best known and the greenest of the seven Ionian Islands, which lie off the west coast of mainland Greece and also comprise the popular islands of Kefalonia and Ithaki as well as Zakynthos (Zante), Paxos, Kithira and Levkas.

Getting to Corfu


Time-pressed holidaymakers can fly direct to Corfu, with daily flights from Athens and several other European cities.

By ferry, Corfu is three hours from Paxi Island, one and a quarter hours from the mainland port of Igoumenitsa and eight hours from Brindisi, Italy. By high-speed catamaran, Corfu is less than an hour from Paxi and four hours from Brindisi.

From Australia: The most convenient flights to Athens are via Bangkok on Thai Airways, Dubai on Emirates or Abu Dhabi on Etihad Airways, with connecting flights to Corfu on Olympic Air.

From New Zealand: The most convenient flights to Athens are via Bangkok on Thai Airways or via Singapore on Singapore Airlines, with connecting flights to Corfu on Olympic Air.

From the UK: EasyJet, Thompson and Thomas Cook offer direct flights to Corfu from Gatwick. Numerous daily non-stop flights are available from London to Athens.

From the USA: The most convenient flights from New York are on Delta Air Lines to Athens connecting with Olympic Air to Corfu or Swiss Air to Zurich connecting on Edelweiss Air to Corfu. From Los Angeles, take Airberlin via Dusseldorf or Lufthansa via Franfurt; other flights include Air New Zealand to London Heathrow connecting with Aegean Air to Athens or Air France via Paris to Athens.

Flying in


Corfu International Airport is located 3km south of Corfu Town. Taxis operate from the airport terminal; hire cars are available.

Athens Airport – Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport – is located 33km southeast of the city centre, around 30 minutes to an hour by taxi. The airport offers 24/7 train and bus services to Athens and beyond.

Entry requirements


A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days.

Getting around


Apart from walking, you can hop on a public bus or hire a car, moped or motorcycle. Taxis are available – just be sure to agree on a price beforehand.
