Corfu Honeymoon Guide

Bustling beach resorts, an energetic nightlife, distinctive historic architecture and friendly locals are just some of the reasons why Corfu still remains one of the most popular Greek Islands for a honeymoon or romantic getaway holiday.

With its lush green landscape of cypress trees, vineyards and shimmering olive groves fringed by blue bays and long golden-sand beaches, Corfu is one of most beautiful islands in Greece.

The island’s natural beauty has been lauded through the ages: Homer called it a ‘beautiful and rich land’; Odysseus stopped off here on his journey home to Ithaki; Shakespeare used the island as background for The Tempest; and various writers have sung its praises in the 20th century, including Gerald Durrell in his 1978 memoir The Garden of the Gods.

What to do and see in Corfu

Discover a rich heritage of Greek, Venetian, French and British influences in the cosmopolitan and elegant streets of Corfu town, known in Greek as Kerkyra (pronounced ker-kih-rah).

Stroll the maze of narrow cobbled alleyways in the historic Old Town, savour scents from the flowering parterre in the French-designed Esplanade Square and relax at a café in the Parisienne-styled arched colonnade street of the Liston building.

Away from Kerkyra, Corfu offers a marvellous landscape of dense olive groves, woodland and mountains sprinkled with whitewashed villages, Venetian fortresses, Byzantine churches and dramatic coastal scenery that has little changed over the centuries. All of this is easily seen and explored by car, bicycle or on foot.

Hike up to Mount Pantokrator, Corfu’s highest point at 906m, or walk the Corfu Trail, a 222km-long scenic footpath that ranges across the length of the island and can take anywhere from 7 to 14 days to complete.

Along the way, visit the Angelokastro, a ruined 13th century Byzantine fortress, which sits perched on a 300m-high pinnacle providing stunning views overlooking the sea and the popular beach resort of Paleokastritsa.
