The Costa Brava stretches for more than 153km along the northeast coast of Spain from Blanes, north of Barcelona, to Cadaques near the French border.

Getting to the Costa Brava

The Coast Brava is easily explored by road from Barcelona, Girona and the French border. Local buses offer a frequent and efficient service along the coast.

By air, daily flights arrive at Barcelona or Girona from Madrid and most European cities.

By train, the high-speed Tren de Alta Velocidad Española (AVE) runs between Madrid and Barcelona, with 17 trains daily in each direction – seven are non-stop taking just two hours, 40 minutes.

From Australia: The most convenient and quickest flights to Barcelona are on Qantas/Singapore Airlines via Singapore. Or you can fly Thai Airways via Bangkok and Madrid or Emirates via Dubai and Madrid.

From New Zealand: The most convenient flights to Barcelona are on Air New Zealand to Los Angeles connecting with Iberia to Madrid.

From the UK: EasyJet offers direct flights daily from London Gatwick to Barcelona, and British Airways offers direct flights daily from London Heathrow. British Airways and Iberia offer daily direct flights from Heathrow to Madrid.

From the USA: The most convenient direct flights to Barcelona are on American Airlines and Delta Air Lines from New York Kennedy, and Continental from Newark. From Los Angeles fly via Madrid on Iberia.

Barcelona El Prat Airport is located 12km southwest of the city centre. A frequent bus and rail service connects the airport with the city centre. Taxis are also available.

Madrid-Barajas Airport is located 9km from the city's financial district and 13km northeast of the Puerta del Sol, Madrid's historic centre. The airport has a rail link to the city centre.

Entry requirements

A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days.

Getting around

The best way to explore the Costa Brava is by hiring a car or catching a bus from town to town.
