Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), informally known as Las Palmas Airport, is located 19km (12mi) south of Las Palmas.
Taxi: Taxis (tel: +34 928 574 556; www.socomtaxi.com) are available from stands outside the arrivals areas of all three zones. The fare to Las Palmas is around €30.
Bus: A frequent bus service operated by Global (tel: +34 928 252 630; www.globalsu.es) runs between Gran Canaria Airport and Las Palmas, taking around 30 minutes, with fares from €2.30.
Global also operates bus services to numerous other destinations on Gran Canaria, including bus 60 to Las Palmas' Parque de San Catalina and Parque de San Telmo, bus 66 to Faro de Maspalomas via Playa del Inglés, and route 5 connects Gran Canaria Airport to the main beach resorts in the south.
Buses depart from outside the arrivals areas of Zones A and C.
Car hire companies at Gran Canaria Airport include Avis, Cicar, Europcar, Goldcar, Hertz and Top Car Auto Reisen. Desks can be found in Zone A (the walkway connecting International and EU Arrivals) on the ground floor.
Money: ATMs are located throughout the airport. Bureaux de Change services are located in the arrivals and boarding areas respectively.
Food: There are coffee shops, bars and fast-food stands in both Arrivals and Departures. A 24-hour deli is located in Zone A (before security).
Shopping: The many shops at Gran Canaria Airport include duty-free outlets (available to all international passengers), gift and fashion retailers, a florist, a jewellery boutique and a shop selling local delicacies.
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi internet access (for up to 30 minutes) is available throughout Gran Canaria Airport.
Additionally, an internet café is available after the security screening point on the first floor of Zone A and a post office is located in the Zone B Departures Hall.
Other: Other facilities available at Gran Canaria Airport include a 24-hour medical service (tel: +34 928 579 123), located in the baggage claim area of Zone A, a pharmacy, baby changing rooms, a children's play area, a chapel and several travel agencies and tour operators.
The Sala Galdós VIP lounge (tel: +34 928 579 094) is situated in the terrace on the second floor, above the EU departures lounge.
There are lifts and ramps in the terminal for disabled access. Disabled parking spaces are provided on each level of the car park. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline at least 48 hours prior to travel.
A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days.
The best way to get around Gran Canaria is to hire a car. There are numerous local and international car-hire agencies located at the airports and in all major resort areas.
Gran Canaria is also excellent locale for cycling, with a choice of scenic rides throughout the island.
Alternatively, a bus network links all the major towns and is an inexpensive, safe and reliable way of getting around the island. Taxis are availabe everywhere but are expensive and best for short distances only.
