Introducing La Gomera
La Gomera is perfect for hiking or cycling through a choice of stunning, unspoiled, natural landscapes – perfect for couples wanting an active honeymoon holiday.
What to do and see on La Gomera
From a rugged cliff-edged coastline occasionally indented with black-sand and pebble beaches, follow walking trails through green valleys and deep ravines past small whitewashed villages into a verdant, mist-shrouded laurel forest scattered with mountain streams and unique Canarian fauna and flora.
Unwind on the pebble- and black-sand beaches of Playa Santiago and Valle Gran Rey then explore some of the barrancos (valleys) that radiate out from the centre of the ancient volcanic caldera.
Explore the celebrated Parque Nacional de Garajonay – a stunning landscape of heather-blanketed hillsides, soaring mountains and one of the world's oldest sub-tropical forests. Hike or cycle through fertile valleys covered with plantations of bananas, oranges, vines and almond trees. Look out for prickly pear cacti and groves of bamboo. To the north lies the verdant and not-to-be-missed Vallehermosa or 'Beautiful Valley'.
Walking is the most popular activity on La Gomera, with numerous routes crisscrossing the island – from easy strolls to challenging hikes. Other activities include mountain biking, dolphin watching and surfing the large waves at Valle Gran Rey on the west coast.
Enjoy creature comforts at a choice of accommodation options throughout the island, including the luxurious Hotel Jardin Tecina, which overlooks the fishing village of Playa de Santiaga, and Playa Calera, located on a cliff top with stunning ocean views.
