How to get to Lefkada

Where is Lefkada . . .

Lefkada is located on the west coast of Greece and is connected to the mainland by a long causeway and floating bridge.
  The Ionian Islands sit off the west coast of mainland Greece and comprise the most visited islands of Corfu, Kefalonia and Ithaki, as well as Zakynthos (Zante), Paxos, Kithira and Lefkada.

Getting to Lefkada
Time-pressed holidaymakers can fly direct to Preveza on the mainland, which is a short 20 minute drive from Lefkada. There are daily flights from Athens, and flights three times a week from Corfu and Kefalonia. By ferry, Lefkada is one and a half hours from Ithaca and two and a half hours from Kefalonia. Athens is around five hours by bus.

From Australia: The most convenient flights to Athens are via Bangkok on Thai Airways, Dubai on Emirates or Abu Dhabi on Etihad Airways, with connecting flights to Lefkada on Sky Express.

From New Zealand: The most convenient flights to Athens are via Bangkok on Thai Airways or via Singapore on Singapore Airlines, with connecting flights to Lefkada on Sky Express.

From the UK: Thomas Cook and Thompson offer direct flights to Preveza from London Gatwick. Numerous daily non-stop flights are available from London to Athens.

From the USA: The most convenient flights from New York are on Delta Air Lines and Olympic Air via Athens and on Iberia via Madrid. From Los Angeles, take Air New Zealand to London Heathrow and Aegean Air to Athens or Air France via Paris to Athens.

Flying in
Aktion National Airport (near Preveza) is located 20km from Lefkada. Taxis operate from the airport terminal.

Athens Airport – Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport – is located 33km southeast of the city centre, around 30 minutes to an hour by taxi. The airport offers 24/7 train and bus services to Athens and beyond.

Entry requirements 
A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days.

Getting around
Cars, mopeds and motorcycles are all easily hired as are quad and mountain bikes. Public buses offer a cheap alternative and taxis are also available – just remember to agree the fare before setting off.
