How to get to Mykonos

Mykonos is the most visited of the Cyclades island group, which comprises Santorini, Paros, Naxos, Ios and Mykonos, plus a number of smaller islands.

Mykonos is located south-east of mainland Greece in the Aegean Sea, and is easily reached by air with daily flights from Athens.

Getting to Mykonos

Time-pressed couples can fly direct to Mykonos, with daily direct flights from Athens taking around 40 minutes.

High-speed catamarans make the journey from Pireaus to Mykonos in three hours. By ferry, Mykonos is half an hour from Tinos and Syros, one and a half hours from Naxos, one hour from Paros, less than three hours from Ios and six hours from Santorini and Piraeus (the port of Athens).

Note: Mykonos has two ferry quays: the Old Port, 400m north of town, and the New Port, 2km north of town. When buying outgoing tickets you should always double-check which quay your ferry leaves from. There are bus connections to both ports from the northern bus station.

From Australia: The most convenient flights to Athens are via Bangkok on Thai Airways, Dubai on Emirates or Abu Dhabi on Etihad Airways, with connecting flights to Mykonos on Agean Airlines and Olympic Air.

From New Zealand: The most convenient flights to Athens are via Bangkok on Thai Airways or via Singapore on Singapore Airlines, with connecting flights to Mykonos on Agean Airlines and Olympic Air.

From the UK: EasyJet and Thompson offer direct flights to Mykonos from London Gatwick. Numerous daily non-stop flights are available from London to Athens.

From the USA: The most convenient flights from New York are on Delta Air Lines and Olympic Air via Athens and on Iberia via Madrid. From Los Angeles, take Air New Zealand to London Heathrow and Aegean Air to Athens or Air France via Paris to Athens.

Mykonos Island National Airport is located 4km from Mykonos Town. Taxis operate from the airport terminal. Some hotels offer a pick-up service.

Athens Airport – Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport – is located 33km southeast of the city centre, around 30 minutes to an hour by taxi. The airport offers 24/7 train and bus services to Athens and beyond.

Entry requirements

A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days.

Getting around

The local bus service offers the ideal and inexpensive way to reach all the best beaches. Or you can hire a car, moped or motorcycle. Taxis are also available, with set prices to just about everywhere you'd want to go.
