Best time to visit Tenerife

The best time to visit Tenerife is anytime. With constant good weather, Tenerife is a 365-day-a-year destination.

The best weather generally occurs during the months of July, August and September.

However, to avoid the summer, high-season crowds visit during spring and autumn when the climate is still pleasantly warm averaging 24°C (75°F).

Tenerife weather

A mountainous island, Tenerife offers a variety of climates depending on location.

North Coast – The north coast has a cool, wet climate with summer highs peaking at 24°C (75°F). This region is popular with windsurfers as it can be quite windy. Autumn is warm, averaging 18°C (64°F).

Winter is mild, but much cooler and wetter than the south coast, with an average high of 15°C in January. Spring is mild averaging 17°C (63°F) in March and 18°C (64°F) in May.

Central Mountains – The mountains of Tenerife receive the most rainfall but provide a cool respite from the summer heat.

Mount Teide, the highest in Tenerife, is snow-capped during the winter months.

Seasons

Peak season: Summer (July and August) and winter (mid-December to mid-January), with many hotels booked out and restaurants and beaches at their most congested.

High season: June and early September. Not quite as bad as August for crowds.

Low season: Spring and autumn when prices are competitive with minimal foreign visitors or Spanish tourists, and the temperature is still warm and pleasant.
