How to get to Oman

Oman is located on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. The country sits at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, and shares land borders with the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest.

The coastline of Oman is formed by the Arabian Sea on the southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast. It also shares marine borders with Iran and Pakistan.

The most convenient route to Oman is by air to Muscat International Airport (MCT), formerly Seeb International Airport, located about 32km (20mi) from the centre of Muscat.

It is also possible to drive between Oman and Dubai, a 6-hour trip across a wild and beautiful desert landscape.

Muscat International Airport (MCT), formerly Seeb International Airport, is located about 32km (20mi) from the centre of Muscat.


Public transport

Taxi: An official taxi desk (tel: +968 2434 1297) is located in the terminal. From the airport to centre of Muscat takes about 25 minutes, and the fare about RO10,000-15,000.

Shuttle: Most hotels provide courtesy bus services to and from the airport for their guests.

Bus: Public buses run along Sultan Qaboos Street with the bus stop just a short walk from the terminal. Journey time into the city centre is about 20-25 minutes.


Car rental

International car rental companies at the airport include Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty, along with a number of local agencies.


Terminal facilities

Money: Several ATMs are available in the airport, operating in a number of currencies. There are also bureau de change services for currency exchange.

Food: A choice of cafés, fast food outlets and restaurants are situated in both Arrivals and Departures, along with an Irish-style pub.

Shopping: Duty-free is available in International Departures and Arrivals, offering a variety of goods including souvenirs, alcohol, perfumes and tobacco.

Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Muscat International Airport, as are pay telephones. A post office is also available to passengers.

Other: Other services available at Muscat International Airport include baby-changing facilities, a first-aid centre and shower facilities, along with a number of travel agencies. A mosque is also located just outside the terminal.


Disabled facilities

The airport is fully accessible, with lifts and escalators connecting the three levels. Any passengers who may require additional assistance are advised to contact their airline before travelling.


Entry requirements

A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay as well as a ticket for return or onward travel. A visa is issued on arrival for a stay of up to 30 days; extensions are possible.


Getting around

Taxis are plentiful and the best way of getting around the city and the suburbs. Hiring a car is a good option, if you plan on going further afield.
