The best time to visit Tonga is during the winter dry season between May and October.
Tonga’s climate is tropical, with a daytime average of 26°C (79°F) throughout the year. Fresh sea breezes keep things pleasant and Tonga is slightly cooler than most tropical regions.
The summer wet season lasts from November to April, with March being the wettest month, especially in Vava’u, which also tends to be somewhat warmer than Tongatapu.
While it can rain at any time of the year, showers are interspersed with frequent sunshine.
Temperatures during the summer months (December to March) can reach a high of 32°C (90°F). Tonga falls within the southwestern Pacific cyclone belt, and hurricanes may occur during this time.
High season: Mid-December to early-January when overseas Samoans return for the holidays, and from May to October; the latter months coincide with most of the major Tongan festivals.
Prices remain fairly constant year round but hotel and airline reservations need to be booked in advance.
