Introducing Nerja

The authentic pueblo blanco (white village) of Nerja, with its pretty houses is set on the cliff top. The view from Nerja overlooks a series of small coves fringed with a mix of volcanic grey- and brown-sand beaches.

What to do and see in Nerja

Stroll the narrow cobblestone streets and courtyards of the Old Town, visit the 17th century Church of El Salvador, enjoy the sea views from the Balcón de Europa (Balcony of Europe, a palm-shaded promenade extending out into the Mediterranean) and descend through the manicured Gardens of Capistrano to pretty Burriana Beach.

In the hills above Nerja sits one of Spain's greatest attractions – the prehistoric Cave of Nerja, which dates back to 25,000 BC. Here you can wander through huge 60m-high caverns that stretch for 5km underground, filled with enormous long stalactites and stalagmites.

Ponder archaeological treasures that have been taken from the cave inside the museum. From the entrance of the cave you can enjoy magnificent views of the countryside and sea.

Hike through the dramatic mountain scenery of the nearby Sierra de Almijara and climb to the nearby Sierra de Burno, which overlooks the town and offers magnificent views from the summit.

Accommodation

Unwind in comfort at the deluxe Parador de Nerja, which sits on the edge of a cliff just a 5-minute walk from the town centre or choose from several other accommodations.
