Bermuda – officially, the Islands of Bermuda – is a British Overseas Territory located in the North Atlantic Ocean around 1,070km (665mi) east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, United States, and about 1,759km (1,093mi) northeast of Cuba.
Although usually referred to in the singular, Bermuda consists of more than 150 islands, with a total area of 53.3sq km (20.6sq mi). Eight of the larger, populated islands are connected by bridges. The largest island, Main Island, is sometimes called Bermuda.
The most convenient route to Bermuda is by air to L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA), previously known as Bermuda International Airport, located on St David's Island, about 15km (9mi) northeast of the capital, Hamilton.
The airport receives daily non-stop flights from cities in North America, Europe and from islands in the Caribbean.
Bermuda is also a major port of call for cruise liners. Although well north of the West Indies, it is often grouped with Caribbean destinations.

Taxi: Metered taxis are available from the taxi rank outside the terminal building.
Shuttle: Hotels can arrange transport by prior arrangement; likewise minibuses, such as Bee Line Transport (tel: +1 411 293 0303; www.beelinetransportltd.com) – one of several operators available.
Bus: Frequent buses (tel: +1 441 292 3851; www.gov.bm) serve the airport departures area, with routes that traverse the island.
Note: These public buses are not always practical for travellers with lots of luggage or for the physically disabled. The fare to most destinations from the airport is BD$3.50
Visitors to Bermuda are not permitted to hire cars. However, it is possible to hire scooters, and several operators in St George's and Hamilton offer these services, including Elbow Beach Cycles (tel: +1 441 296 2300; www.elbowbeachcycles.com) and Oleander Cycles (tel: +1 441 297 0478; www.oleandercycles.bm).
Money: There are ATMs on both floors of the terminal building.
Food: A selection of snack bars, as well as a sports bar and a bistro café serve a selection of dishes within the terminal building.
Shopping: Several shops at the airport, include duty-free outlets selling liquor, tobacco, cosmetics, perfumes and toiletries. There are also stores offering magazines, books, souvenirs, jewellery and clothing.
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the terminal. Mobile phone charging facilities are also available.
Other: An executive lounge is available to first-class passengers in the U.S Departures area, and a British Airways Business Lounge is located in International Departures. A number of larger hotels and resorts offer meeting and conference facilities.
Assistance for disabled passengers is available when boarding and disembarking aircraft.
All visitors must hold return/onward tickets, plus proof of sufficient funds, and all visitors must hold passports which are valid at least six months after entry. No visa is required for a stay of up to six months.
The public bus system offers an inexpensive way to explore Bermuda. Ferries also offer an enjoyable way to get around Great Sound Harbour.
Electric minicars, scooters and bicycles are all available for hire and also offer a fun way of getting around the island. Taxis are available but can be expensive when not travelling in a group.
